Swamp pop, a captivating blend of rhythm and blues, country, and Cajun music, emerged from the bayous of southern Louisiana in the 1950s. Its infectious rhythms and heartfelt lyrics have captivated music lovers for generations.

Join us for an unforgettable afternoon featuring live performances by local legends BENNY & THE FLYBYNITERS and THE RECHORDS, along with special guests IAN COLLARD, LORETTA MILLER, EZRA LEE and more

PBS FM DJs MOHAIR SLIM and JIM DANDY will spin vintage swamp pop vinyl, transporting you back to the golden age of this beloved genre.

Swamp pop's origins can be traced to the vibrant Creole culture of Louisiana, where musicians blended traditional Cajun melodies with the bluesy sounds of New Orleans. Major exponents of the genre include the legendary Slim Harpo, Warren Storm, Bobby Charles and Tommy McLain, whose soulful vocals and sweet melodies continue to inspire musicians today.

The Gem has been a staple for The Rechords since the beginning of their performing history. It helped put the band on the map with possibly over 100 shows and most of those were over a two year residency from 2010. We’re going to do our best to relive the fun we always had at this legendary venue and we hope to see our Gem family this weekend.

Rechords get Catfish-ed this Sat

The Rechords jump into The Catfish this SAT 26th NOV as a last minute show to help them celebrate the venues 9th Birthday celebrations.

The Catfish' 9th birthday is fast approaching and after a two-year covid-related hiatus we're bringing back our much loved pub poker tour!

The rules are simple:

Get the crew together and meet at The Catfish for registration.

Buy a pot of one of our Catfish birthday beers - brewed in collaboration with Tallboy and Moose X 3 Ravens, Kaiju, MoonDog, and Sure X Brewtal - at each venue on the tour.

Take a photo with your beer and upload to socials - ensure it's a post and not a story, and that the post is public so we can see all the fun you're having.

Tag The Catfish, the venue you're at, the brewery you're drinking, and include the hashtag #Catfishturns9

Show your post to staff at the venue to receive your special edition 2022 Catfish Birthday playing card.

Get back to the Catfish by 7:30pm to show us your hand - 5 venues, 5 cards, best poker hand wins!

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, as well as best team name, best photo, fastest team, and whatever else we make up on the day.

There will also be a prize for worst hand, so don't feel defeated if your cards aren't that great!
